I’ve got a confession to make… I don’t just spend my money on brunch at places such as this or this, I spend it on beauty and makeup too. I’ve had a longtime affair with makeup but I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m pretty crap at applying it. Well, I thought I was anyway. More on that a little later in this post.
My Skin Type
I’ve got combination skin – the strangest kind. Dehydrated but oily. For years I didn’t bother with skincare because I had oily skin so why on earth would I need to add gunk to it? That was my philosophy anyway.
As you grow older you sometimes grow wiser hahahahah I’d like to think I’m a little wiser now. Or maybe I’ve just fallen for one sales pitch too many, I don’t know. But now I feel skincare is where it’s at people! Let me explain why.

How Long until you see results?
I’ve tried most things, on end of the price spectrum and I think I’ve found a good medium for my wallet and skin. They say – and I don’t know who ‘they’ are… – but they say that it takes a good six to eight weeks or so to see the effects of skincare when you change your routine. The skin regenerates every 28 days (thanks Web MD hahahah) so I guess it has something to do with that.
How can you help your skin?
As we age our skin looses elasticity and plumpness and becomes dryer and fine lines start appearing. There are of course things we can do to help like leading a healthy lifestyle, drinking plenty of water and staying out of the sun.
It’s important to remember however that nothing you put on your skin will turn the clock back permanently. If it did skincare would cost a lot more and surgery be pointless. I don’t know about you but it is hard to not fall for all the bullsh*t in adverts sometimes with the promises of of rejuvenating this and younger looking that. Am I right?
Skincare is Personal, find what’s right for You
Sometimes you get what you pay for but not always. Just because something costs you an arm and a leg and your firstborn, it doesn’t mean that product will work miracles – for you. Everyone is different. We seem to forget that on a daily basis I think.

Our budgets are also different at different stages of our lives. I saw a meme on instagram once that said something along the lines of no one is ugly, just not as rich as someone some. As superficial and wrong as it sounds I kind of agree.
Hear me out – If you had access to the greatest makeup artists and dermatologists and fashion houses and hairdressers wouldn’t you look as amazing as some of the people on the red carpet? Of course you would!
No one and I mean no one is ugly on the outside, everyone has beauty. But there are plenty of ugly on the inside people out there though unfortunately. We don’t live in a perfect world yet.
My Journey to find my Skin Care Products
It’s strange really how I’ve until a few years back didn’t love skin care as much as makeup as I grew up with a mother who loved the stuff. Never failing to moisturise or use body lotion. She always looked so healthy with her lovely tan and smelled so good from all these potions hahahaha she still does (love you mum!)

But I realised a couple of years ago or so that it was time to start looking after my skin and hopefully it will reward me by staying young and healthy looking for longer.
I use Garnier Micellar water morning and night to clean my skin of any makeup. I used to use the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil and Face Tonic but I’ve run out of both and need to get some more as I love these and so does my skin. For the time being Garnier is the winner as the Bobbi Brown products are a bit pricier and will just have to wait for now.
My daily skincare routine

On the daily I use face cream and eye cream. I use these before applying any makeup. I got these about 3 weeks ago on trip to Stockholm, Sweden and so far so good. I haven’t had a full cycle of skin regeneration yet though so I’m hoping the SKIR products will continue to do well for my skin.
These are very affordable (were talking maybe a fiver or so each here!) and I’m happy I found them. If you see them online I highly recommend them. I bought these at Åhlens. I mean yes, I was a sucker for the simple packaging too I’m not going to lie… but like I said, so far so good!

When we talk about skin care we, and by we I mean I…, often neglect hands and body moisturisers. As this brand had a 3 for 2 offer on I decided to get the hand cream too which is actually marvellous! Doesn’t leave a greasy feel and soaks up quickly.

I have a body créme from Jo Malone that smells gorgeous and the scent lingers for literal hours. I’ll put it on one morning, go about my day and evening and the scent is still there the next morning before I have a shower. It really will last all day and night. It was very expensive and I probably won’t repurchase purely based on the £62 price tag. But I wouldn’t turn it down if it as a present hahahaha
One thing Jo Malone is great for is fragrance combining and this body créme is brilliant for that. I will do a post on Jo Malone fragrance combining in the future so keep your eye out for that. Not just for the body but for the home too.
My Sunday skincare routine
Once a week, usually on Sundays, I deep cleanse by using the Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains which are a godsend for my skin. You can mix this with any cleanser and it lightly exfoliates the face. I do find this product makes a huge difference to the feel of my skin after I’ve used it. My skin feels smoother and is brighter somehow and makeup goes on like a dream on smooth skin.

I also do some masks. I quite like the Garnier sheet masks but they are a pain sometimes when they don’t fit properly and I feel I can’t breath hahahahah. I do like these masks from Bobbi Brown though. They are easy to use and I’m lazy so win win really hahahahaha
The instant Detox Mask contains Hawiian sea water & white clay. To use this you apply a thin layer on slightly damp skin and allow to dry for 2-5 minutes. Rinse off well with warm water and you can use this once a week or as needed.
The Skin Nourishing Mask contains Coral Grass & Green Algae and to use this you need to apply liberally on the skin and allow it to absorb for 2-5 minutes. Then you tissue off the excess product (if any left) and massage residue gently into the skin. You’re meant to use this once a week for intense moisture or 3 times per week for added anti-aging benefits. Both smell so good and fresh.

You know when I mentioned at the beginning of this post how I felt I was crap at applying makeup? Well, turns out skincare is very important to make the application of makeup look good. These are the products that work really well for my skin and the makeup I apply sure as heck look a lot better now and maybe I’m not as crap as I thought after all hahahah
I mean I’m no expert but what I’m trying to say is – finding a good skin care regiment for your skin really does make a difference to the look, feel and longevity of makeup when applied.

All these years I thought I was simply bad at picking foundations that didn’t work for me or bad at applying it. You live and learn right!
I think I’ve waffled on enough about skincare now, don’t you? Besides, I best go and wash off the detox mask and apply the skin nourishing mask. It is Sunday today so duh! hahahaha
Leave me a comment and let me know what your routine is or link me to a post if you’ve written one, I’m nosy and would love to know and maybe pick up some recommendations and tips.

Your skincare routine is fantastic! I am currently using Glyderm. As the summer hits, I begin to get dark spots, so this skincare line is working. I also use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to remove liquid eyeliner and eyeshadow. It’s life! ♥️ Thanks for sharing. xx

I love a good skincare routine. I spend between 10 and 20 minutes on mine every day after work and I find it soothing. It marks the time between work and relaxation. The Ordinary is a brand that has fantastic ingredients and formulations at budget prices if you’re in the market. Also, anything by Jo Malone is glorious.

It really is quite soothing isn’t it you’re right. I’ve always been a bit cautious about the Ordinary brand as I’ve no clue what all the ingredients do and worry something would go wrong but I’ve heard they are a very affordable brand. Anything Jo Malone is super glorious I agree hahahah. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, I really appreciate it 😀
